Now that food manufacturers in the U.S. have to name their trans-fat content, a number of them are changing to healthier oils like coconut and palm. I am very happy to see this change for the better! I hope more grocery store items continue this trend.
Undoubtedly, there will be ignorant those who will cry out that palm oil is an unhealthy saturated fat. Like coconut oil, palm oil has been mislabeled as harmful for far too long, when it is actually is a very healthy saturated fat. Both oils have been staples in the food diets of tropical people for thousands of years, and have helped people remain slim and healthy for centuries.
Like avocado oil, palm oil is great for cooking and frying, and is extremely stable and stable at room temperature, so it doesn't require hydrogenation and contains no trans efas. (Trans fat could be the bad stuff you wish to avoid just like the plague!) Based on authors and experts Sally Fallon and Mary G. Enig, PhD, of the Weston A. Value Foundation, "palm oil is really a steady, healthy, normal fat composed of saturated and monounsaturated fat acids." ( oil is the second most used nutritional oil on earth, behind soy oil, and more healthy for you personally than soy oil. It arises from an alternative palm tree than coconuts-- a tree in Africa that produces small fruits that retain the palm oil. Palm oil is redish lemon in it is natural (organic) state and a source of carotenes and and one of the best sourced elements of vitamin E Antioxidant colored.
Organic palm oil does have a bit of a strong taste that (for Americans) has a little getting used to. (I use it when I make fish, since my children does not observe the little flavor difference with the strong fish flavor covering it.) Processed palm oil has the flavor eliminated, but so can be some of the vitamins. But even then, it is still far better for you personally than soy or canola oil.
I believe it's high time Americans see what most of the rest of the globe already knows, that switching to coconut and palm oil is definately a change for the greater! So, try to find products that have non-hydrogenated coconut or palm oil, or even better, make your own personal healthy snacks with one of these oils. http://www.petroverorthodontics.com/braces/why-self-ligating-braces
