Flat roof coverings can be time consuming to fit and consequently contractors tend to overprice the fitting of a fresh rubber roofing. Fitting your own personal DIY flat roof product will mean you are likely to save cash and the job is perhaps not technically difficult, as long as you are moderately mobile. Make sure to make sure your personal safety at all times, as you are apt to be working at height.

Rubber roofing may be the perfect material for a flat roof as you just need to roll it out over the surface area. Start by making sure you have removed all the remnants of your previous covering and check for almost any areas that have been subjected to moisture. Nail, or screw, into place insulation boards if you need to replace some of the roof construction. Once the surface is prepared, roll out your rubber substance, starting work at the section of your roof with the shortest dimension.

Since DIY flat roof material will come in rolls it's going to need to be left to flatten out for a while in the sunshine. It is always best to take on a project like this when the weather forecast is favourable. Roll out more parts of the rubber substance permitting each one to overlap the last by three inches or so. Cut away any extra areas of the rubber that intersects with guttering. Allow only a little of the material to overhang the edge of your roof at each side.

Once flat, fold straight back on it self the final section of rubber you put in position. Apply adhesive to the upturned section of material and push it back into place. Make sure your get a good fit by using a high quality brush at the top side of the rubber to sort out any irregular parts. Continue to use adhesive to the rest of the rubber roofing product and work it into place together with your brush.
