This mission is achieved via a collaborative team strategy. Members of the team contain the students themselves, their parents, their Milwaukee School, law enforcement, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Better Milwaukee. This plan is carried out by a devoted group of ten specialists. The Milwaukee Police Division supplies four officers who operate in teams of two, combing the streets in the course of the day, looking for truant students. The officers escort the students to a single of two centers exactly where the Milwaukee Schools offer two school liaisons who complete an initial evaluation with the student and access present attendance details. Authorities notify the students parents, and instruct them to come to the center to pick up their child. TABS also employs a Milwaukee Schools social worker who gives follow-up activities with habitual truants and their families.
