In the center of the French Alps, in the north east of the Rhone Alps place lies the town of Les Houches. Nestled at one end of the Chamonix valley in the Mont Blanc region of the Haute Savoie Les Houches had always been the considered merely a satellite community of its a great deal more illustrious neighbour Chamonix - the planet capital of climbing and skiing. Of course the natives knew better and many high mountain guides, ski instructors and pisteurs had long since migrated to the quite and peaceful corner of the Chamonix valley - driven as much, perhaps, by its magnificent setting at the base of Mont Blanc, its peace, peace and old-fashioned atmosphere as its less expensive house. But, it wasnt well before the resort became identified as only a little jewel at the heart of the Mont Blanc Massif and tourism bloomed due in a sizable part to Les Houches very quick access to and from Geneva airport.

It wasnt always so. It was only with the structure of the new street between Le Fayet and Chamonix during 1860-70, and then with the appearance of the train in 1901, that Les Houches started to open up to summer vacation. It was then that Les Houches became a little holiday escape and the first hotels and holiday homes begun to appear. Les Houches first began as a cold weather destination with the construction of the Bellevue cable car in 1936-7. From the 1960s the growing tourism growth led to the development of new lift systems. But, it absolutely was with the digging of the Mont Blanc tunnel (1959-65) and the achievement of the Route Blanche motorway in 1990 which opened up the town of Les Houches to the remainder of Europe.

Situated at a of 1000 metres Les Houches is a pleasant family resort by having an outstanding panorama of the Chamonix Aiguilles which encircle the Chamonix valley. The community is composed of a number of little hamlets, with numerous old facilities and chapels and enjoys amazing 360 views, some great tree covered skiing along paths winding through the woods (great for negative climate times) and two of the best on mountain restaurants in the valley.

Les Houches also offers the widest variety and greatest amount of runs in the Chamonix valley, offering from delicate greens and blues for involving your recently acquired turns on, to the entire world famous Kandahar - an everyday feature on the FIS Men's World Cup downhill world. Certainly, the Kandahar is recognized as by many competitors to be 2nd only in difficulty to the Streif on the Hahnenkamn in Kitzbuhel. The work is 3343 yards long by having an impressive 870m of declivity and the time is sub two minutes. Having its group of technical passages and jumps, including Le Goulet and La Cassure, the Kandahar can be regarded as being among the most beautiful alpine hills in the entire world.

Les Houches offers a variety of activities throughout every season to suit all tastes and inclinations. During the winter weather, in addition to the skiing and snowboarding, Les Houches offers dog sleighing, outside ice skating, snowshoeing, indoor climbing, paragliding and local areas providing clean local produce. During the glorious summer season you can rise, trek, mountain bike, paraglide, play football or simply just relax and benefit from the fresh mountain air and spectacular scenery. Coupled with a number of bars and restaurants, shops and galleries to explore and visit there must be enough to help keep you occupied throughout your stay. locação de empilhadeiras
